Through the last 14 months of lockdowns here in Alberta, Canada, I’ve never been more determined nor dedicated to my passions as I have to my ballet learning. Its been an incredible time where I miss my studios, and I miss my teenage classmates more than anything, but I’ve also been adamant on continuing my practice and learning from the very best. Fortunately, this has been possible thanks to social media with Instagram Live videos, and professional dancers offering Zoom ballet classes. I’ve not only been able to continue my practice via Zoom with my local studio, but also with multiple dancers from the American Ballet Theatre. I’ve found a friend and excellent instructor in Leann Underwood, a teacher from the ABT JKO school, and we’ve found not only a connection in our passion for ballet, but also in our interest and love of the arts of Wine and Spirit(s)!
Through my ballet classes with Leann, I’ve learned how important it is to have an instructor who is educated in teaching. Not only is Leann an experienced professional dancer, but she has completed years of teacher training and has years of experience as a teacher, and the skills that I have learned through her methods have advanced me to comfort levels I didn’t think I could reach with my practice in such short periods of time… and yes, that includes slow, safe and exciting training en pointe!
With Leann’s interest in my own career as a Wine and Spirits educator, and our shared view on wine and spirits as a treat to be respected and enjoyed, we have now begun to engage together on our social media platforms sharing our knowledge on ballet, wine, and the ‘spirit’ that brings us to them as an art that is a lifetime of learning and passion.
From Leanns Zoom ballet and ballet fitness classes, and our social media engagement, we’ve met so many people who share our passions for our areas of expertise, so we officially created our project: Ballet at the Bar(re): Ballet, Wine and Spirit!
Our first mini masterclass will take place via interactive Zoom on Sunday, June 6th 2021 at 8PM EST (6PM MST), and it will focus on the origins, history and terminology of ballet, paralleled with the origins, history and terminology of the wine and spirits industry. Participants will receive a discounted rate to take one of Leanns ballet or ballet fitness classes, plus an exclusive discount on my Isola and Isola Ballerina skincare products.
